  6. evaluation version of SkPortScan ActiveX Control, including an extract from the license
  7. agreement and a suggested program description.

  46. SkPortScan ActiveX Control is a lightweight, intelligent, and powerful port scanner control. 
  47. It allows developers to integrate port-scanning capabilities into their applications. 
  48. SkPortScan can be used for network exploration or security auditing. 
  49. SkPortScan can determine what services (ports) are open (offered) by remote hosts. 
  50. It is capable of scanning multiple hosts simultaneously. 
  51. SkPortScan can scan different protocols simultaneously:
  52. - TCP ports only;
  53. - UDP ports only;
  54. - TCP and UDP ports simultaneously. 
  55. It can operate in 3 different scan modes: 
  56. - Scan range of ports; 
  57. - Scan authorized ports (authorized port numbers are divided into three ranges: 
  58. the Well Known Ports, the Registered Ports, and the Dynamic and/or Private Ports. 
  59. Well Known Ports are those from 0 through 1023, Registered Ports are those from 1024 
  60. through 49151, and the Dynamic and/or Private Ports are those from 49152 through 65535. 
  61. The Well Known Ports are assigned by the IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) and 
  62. on most systems can only be used by system (root level) processes or by programs executed 
  63. by privileged users);
  64. - Scan hostile ports only (ports, that are mostly used for backdoors or trojan programs. 
  65. hackers/crackers that break into systems often start processes running on one of the 
  66. following ports and then use them to either regain entry or launch attacks against other 
  67. sites).
